A wash station assembly (10) and method for washing selected samples in a sample containing assembly (12). The wash station assembly (10) includes a wash station having a frame (11) and a fluid dispensing assembly (14) connected to the frame (11). The fluid dispensing assembly (14) has a select or valve (46) that is connectable to a plurality of fluid lines (18). And array of syringes (42) is coupled to the selector valve (46). Each syringe include s a check valve that prevents backflow of fluid or air into the syringe throug h the pipetting needles (32). A distribution manifold is connected to the selector valve (46) and has a plurality of channels which couple to the syringes (42). Each distribution channel has a manifold valve therein that prevents backflow of fluid into the manifold from the syringes (42). A waste management system (24) is connected to the wash station (10) to automaticall y separate halogenated waste fluids from non-halogenated waste fluids.
