A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for signalling a structure of a code stream comprising a plurality of code segments are disclosed. In the method, a code segment indexing order is determined based on a reference order for the code segments and a set of permutation values for modifying ordering of indices of the reference order. The code segment indexing order is used for signalling the structure of the code stream. The reference order is preferably dependent upon a predetermined coding process for producing the code stream. The code stream may relate to a decomposed, digital image, but may alternatively relate to audio and/or video data. |
