In a process for treating a process air stream (1) with a liquid absorbent (2) and/or drying of a spent absorbent medium (2), by using a regenerating air flow (3), the absorbent liquid is uniformly distributed, as a film over a carrier surface (6,7) within a duct (4,5) through which the air stream is passing. Preferred Features: The moisture in the air stream (1) is transferred to the absorbent (2) or alternatively the water in the absorbent is transferred to the regenerating air flow (3). The carrier surface is preferably a grid structure and may be of plastics construction. For regeneration of the absorbent liquid, heat may be provided (25) from a heat exchanger, or by microwave heating, before distribution on the carrier. The absorbent drying stage for the process air stream, may be backed up passing the air through a subsequent bed of a solid absorbent, such as activated earth or plastics granules.
