A ring(9) is installed between the upper end of the piston's slide track(3) and cylinder head(8). The ring has a protrusion(11) which in relation to the slide track protrudes above it into the cylinder chamber(2), and covers the track lying beneath it and the piston crown edge(7a) to prevent contact by the injected fuel. The piston crown(7) protrudes into the combustion chamber(12) lying between the slide track and cylinder head so that its centre lies closer to the cylinder head than to the piston crown edge.
