A gearshift control unit for a bike has a rotary body (6) which carries a roller (7) for winding up a cable that drives the gear shift device. The rotary body is mounted in a body (2) which supports a brake lever of the bike and is provided with an indexing device which the operating positions of the rotary body define corresponding to the different transmission ratios. The ratios can be selected with the help of the gear shift device. The unit (1) further has two rotary body drive levers which are found at positions which can be easily reached by the fingers of the cyclist's hand without changing the position of the hand on the handlebar. The levers are adapted to effect a rotation of the rotary body in two opposite directions with the help of ratchet devices assigned to each rotary body. A transmission device (10) is assigned to the gear shift control unit which is adapted to transmit an electrical signal which is characteristic of the operating position of the rotary body. The transmission device is mounted in an auxiliary support body (11) which is provided with devices in order to fasten it to the body. It supports the brake lever. The auxiliary support body also carries a knob (20) at a position which can be easily reached by the fingers of the cyclist's hand. The knob is to be connected electrically to an electronic unit of the bicycle in order to allow the selection, e.g., of an operating mode of the control unit or a display mode on a display apparatus carried along which is connected to the control unit.
