The detector has movable magnetic elements (5), which are elastically deformed in reaction to a relative transverse shift between shaft surfaces. The deformation alters axially arranged soft ferromagnetic vanes (4), whose inclinations are determined electromagnetically using coils (6a-d) spaced radially outside the vanes. The torque detector has movable magnetic elements, which include an element body (3), which are elastically deformed in reaction to a relative transverse shift between the surfaces of an upper (1) and a lower (2) shaft, and soft ferromagnetic vanes, which are held by the element body, and which alter in their inclination relative to the axial direction, due to the elastic deformation of the element body. The inclination of the vane is determined electromagnetically by coils spaced radially outside the vanes.
