The invention relates to a bott for closing vessels containing molten metal, comprising an e.g., rod-shaped stopping body (1) which consists of a refractory material. Said stopping body has an insertion sleeve (2), also consisting of a refractory material, which adjoins the upper end of the stopping body (1). This insertion sleeve (2) is essentially coaxial with the stopping body and has a bore (3) for releasably engaging an e.g. metal fixing rod (4) for mounting on a lifting mechanism. The insertion sleeve (2) and the stopping body (1) are produced in one piece by combined moulding, optionally isostatic pressing, and firing. The refractory ceramic material of which the stopping body (1) consists is of a higher quality in the area of the insertion sleeve (2) than elsewhere on the stopping body (1).
