A catalyst for the conversion of carbon oxide comprising 30 to 70% CuO, 20 to 90% ZnO, 0.1 to 20% of an element of Group IV-B in the form of an oxide, about 5 to about 40 percent Al203 and preferably 50 to 1000 ppm of a Group 1-A element in the form of an oxide.
