1283991 A-Norpregnenes E R SQUIBB & SONS Inc 1 Aug 1969 [1 Aug 1968] 36294/69 Heading C2C The invention comprises 17α,20α- or 17α-20#- dihydroxy - A - norpregn - 3(5) - en - 2 - one and mono- and di-acylates thereof wherein the acyl groups are derived from hydrocarbon carboxylic acids of up to 12 carbon atoms; and their preparation from 17α-hydroxy-A-norprogesterone by reduction either enzymatically using Streptomyces roseochromogenus to give the 17α,20α-diol, or with sodium borohydride to give the 17α,20#-diol, optionally followed in both cases by acylation. The inventive compounds are said to be antiandrogenic and may be made up with carriers into pharmaceutical compositions for oral, parenteral and topical administration.
