1,196,075. Helically wound pipe. H. SAWADA, and S. MIYAWAKI. 27 March, 1968 [5 April, 1967; 7 Dec., 1967]. No. 14825 /68. Heading F2P. Apparatus for the manufacture of hose from thermoplastic material, in which the material in elongate form T is helically wound and adjacent edges are bonded together to form a hose, includes an endless conveyer belt 3 one portion of which is mounted for movement about a helical path, a pressure roll 24 rotatably mounted parallel to the axis of the helical path, means 5, 6, 8 for driving the roll and the belt whereby the tape T introduced between pressure roll and belt is drawn around the helical path on the belt, the pressure roll engaging the tape and bonding the adjacent edges together. The softened tape T is introduced between the pressure roller 24 and the feeding device comprising six rollers 2 around which is wound the endless conveyer belt 3 ; the helically formed hose resulting therefrom floating along the surface of cooling water contained in the tank 10, the leading end of the hose being closed by a polythene film to provide buoyancy. To prevent the rotating hose moving towards a side wall of the tank 10, nozzles 17 are provided to spray cooling water against the hose. A cooling water tank 4 is also provided for the belt 3. The tape T from which the hose is formed is extruded from soft vinyl chloride in the section shown, a hard vinyl chloride wire W being provided therein. The edges of adjacent turns of the semi molten tape are bonded together by the action of the pressure roller 24. |
