A multiple-twist spindle, e.g. a fourfold twist spindle, comprises a number, e.g. two, rotating discs 1, 2 each provided with a yarn passage 6a, 6c, a stationary member 3 mounted between each two adjacent discs and having a yarn passage 6b for receiving yarn coming from the disc above it and for passing yam to the disc below, a device 11, 11' to transfer rotation from the lower to upper discs mounted on the stationary member and a stationary member 4 mounted on the top disc 1 for carrying a bobbin 5. Disc 2 is driven, e.g. by a belt 17 and rotation is passed to disc 1 via a double ended roller 11, 11' mounted in the stationary member 3 and urged by spring means, see Figs. 2 and 3 not shown, into engagement with wharve-like portions of the discs. A number of rollers 11, 11' may be provided about the spindle axis; a meshing gear arrangement may alternatively be used. The stationary members 3 and 4 are prevented from rotating by magnetic means, see Fig. 4 not shown, the stationary magnet for member 4 being mounted on arms on member 3. Arm 10 mounted on stationary member 3 and carrying a guide 9a for the yarn ballooning from disc 1, is provided with rollers 22 for the yam running from guide 9a to stationary member 3. In Fig. 4 not shown a transparent cover (21) is provided on member (4) to enclose the bobbin and a similar cover (21') is provided on stationary member 3 to separate the balloons in the yarn issuing from discs 1 and 2. The drive transmitting roller 11, 11' may have end portions of different diameters so that disc 1 rotates more quickly than disc 2 and more than 4 turns for each revolution of disc 2 is inserted. The discs 1 and 2 may be axially offset, see Fig. 5 not shown. Any number of discs may be provided to produce spindles which have a higher twist factor than 4. Tensioning device A tensioning device for positioning on bobbin 5 comprises two arms 25 pivoted at 27 within a cap 24, the other ends of the arms passing through openings 26 in the cap. Washer 28 of selectable weight can be placed on the projecting arm ends so that a yarn passing through the cap and between the arms is tensioned in an adjustable way. The cap may be a push fit or screwed onto the bobbin tube. |
