PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve damping effect for noise caused by the operation of a supercharger by providing a muffler based on the principle of a Helmholtz resonator, having a chamber separated from a passage by a perforated sheet metal as at least one flow guide structural element in the region of an exhaust driving type supercharger. SOLUTION: A large-sized diesel engine includes plural cylinders in a row, the exhaust port of each cylinder is connected to an exhaust manifold, and an exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold is connected to an exhaust driving type supercharger. To prevent noise produced at the time of driving the supercharger, at least one muffler 21 is provided in the region of the supercharger. The muffler 21 is constructed on the basis of the principle of a Helmholtz resonator, and formed by a perforated sheet metal 23 demarcating a passage 22, and a covering pipe 24 where the sheet metal is arranged at a space in the radial direction. A chamber 25 demarcated between both members 23, 24 is communicated with the passage 22 through holes 26 formed in the perforated sheet metal 23.
