PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for dehydration/transparent vitrification of a porous matrix for optical fiber, capable of diminishing the outer diameter fluctuation in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber matrix after dehydrated/ transparently vitrified. SOLUTION: This method for dehydration/transparent vitrification of a porous matrix for optical fiber comprises putting the matrix 2 into an oven core tube 1 and then heating the matrix 2 with the heaters 7 of an oven 8 installed outside the oven core tube 1. The outer diameter of the matrix 2 inside the oven core tube 1 is measured by relevant means 38,39, and concurrently, a control is performed through changing its conditions so as to bring the cuter diameter of a dehydrated/transparently vitrified portion of the matrix within a necessary range. |
