PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the lowering of throughput by performing preliminary ejection appropriately regardless of the extent of print quality deterioration estimated for imperfect ejection in an arrangement where preliminary ejection is performed while moving a recording head. SOLUTION: If serious deterioration of print quality is estimated for imperfect ejection (S705) at the time of moving a recording head for 1 raster printing, preliminary ejection is performed during the movement of the recording head in the printing direction (S706, S707) and during the movement of the recording head in the direction returning back to print start position (S709, S710). Consequently, reciprocal movement of the recording head related to print operation can be utilized to preliminary ejection and the lowering of throughput due to a special operation for preliminary ejection can be prevented while performing preliminary ejection appropriately. |
