PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aqueous emulsion having extremely high stability by (co)polymerizing a (meth)acrylic acid ester-based monomer, a styrene-based monomer or a diene-based monomer by using a common water-soluble polymer protective colloid as a dispersant and to provide a method for producing the emulsion. SOLUTION: This aqueous emulsion is a (co)polymer emulsion which is dispersed and stabilized with a water-soluble polymer protective colloid and comprises one or more selected from the group consisting of a (meth)acrylic acid ester-based monomer unit, a styrene-based monomer unit and a diene-based monomer unit as main components. The emulsion has 0.05-5μm particle diameter, >=100 alcohol dispersion index, >=20 calcium chloride chemical stability index and 445 mN/m surface tension in 30% solid content concentration.
