PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new cyclic urea compound important as an intermediate for production of agrochemicals and medicines, or as one component in monomers constituting a high molecular compound because of having a double bond in the molecule. SOLUTION: This cyclic urea compound is the compound of formula I [Et is ethyl; R is the ethyl or a group of formula H (R' is a 2-6C alkyl); when R is the ethyl, A is a group of formula III, and when R is the group of formula II, A is a group of formula IV], e.g. 1,3,4,5-tetraethyl-4-imidazolin-2-one. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting 1,3-diethyl-2-imidazolidinone with a 2-6C olefin and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst (a platinum group metal or a compound containing the platinum group element). |
