PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for treating organic substances which can prevent the failures of a heater and a fan, the deterioration of a catalyst, and others by preventing bedewing caused by the inflow of exhaust gas containing water vapor into a deodorization mechanism and the fan even when the operation of the apparatus is stopped by the abrupt drop of the power source of the apparatus due to a power failure and others. SOLUTION: A treatment tank 2 for decomposing organic substances such as garbage to be charged, a deodorization mechanism 11 which is arranged in a discharge channel (exhaust pipe 10) for exhaust gas from the tank 2 and deodorizes the exhaust gas with the use of a heating means (heater 18) and a catalyst 19, and an opening/closing means (opening/closing part 9) which shut off the inflow of the exhaust gas into the deodorization mechanism 11 and a fan 12 when the heating means (heater 18) of the mechanism 11 stopped are provided. |
