1321548 Roofs KOPPERS CO Inc 16 Dec 1971 [2 Feb 1971] 58538/71 Heading E1W A roof comprises a base 13 of, e.g. wood or metal, a low density concrete layer 15 including a homogeneous dispersal of expanded beads of a thermoplastic material, polystyrene and a layer 17 of bituminous material mechanically bonded to the surface of the concrete layer. The concrete layer comprises, e.g. ¢ to 1 part by weight of an homogenizing agent; 3 parts by weight expanded beads; 50-90 parts by weight of Portland cement; and 35 to 45 parts by weight water. An upper layer 19, of aggregate may be employed, and the bituminous layer may be laid hot over a layer of reinforcing fabric, through which it can percolate. The heat of the bituminous layer will disintegrate some of the beads and allow a mechanical interface bond in either embodiment. The concrete layer may be reinforced by nylon fibres, or sisal, and may contain fillers, e.g. wood shavings, cork, &c. Examples of suitable cements, bituminous layers, &c. are given in the Specification.
|
