LIQUID ANTACID COMPOSITIONS

Liquid antacid compositions for neutralizing stomach acid in humans and other animals comprising: (a) calcium carbonate; (b) short chain alkyl esters of p-hydroxybenzoic acid; (c) benzyl alcohol; (d) optionally, but preferably, bis-biguanide compound or a pharmaceuticallyacceptable salt thereof; and (e) other excipients. These compositions are further preferably formulated to contain an elevated soluble solids content at a level which will increase the shelf stability of the composition.
