PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for starting and controlling an air bag device capable of discriminating so-called soft crash from low-speed collision. SOLUTION: When a preset or more deceleration is detected (S104), a speed integration value ΔV as a time integration of the deceleration is calculated (S110) and a segment length in a preset range about the change property curve of the speed integration value ΔV is calculated (S112, 114). When the segment length is judged to be smaller than a preset value 12 , low-speed collision occurs instead of so-called soft crash, when the speed integration value ΔV exceeds a preset threshold value VTH, an air bag is developed, when the segment length is judged to be not less than 12 (S116), the speed integration value ΔV is incremented by a preset value α (S118), and when it is judged to exceed the threshold value VTH (S112), so-called soft crash occurs to develop the air bag. |
