PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject plant cell to which the resistance to coldness is imparted by introducing a gene coding for a specific enzyme that unsaturates the Δ9 position of a fatty acid linking to a lipid. SOLUTION: The gene encoding the enzyme that unsaturates the Δ9 position in the fatty acid linking to a lipid and originates from Anacystis is introduced. This gene is preferably obtained by preparing the genome DNA from the cells of a blue-green algae in Anacystis, preparing a gene library based on the genome DNA, selecting the clone including the desired gene from the library, and amplifying the clone and incorporating the clone into a vector and introducing the vector into the plant cells. In a plant of Dicotyledones such as tobacco or the like, the process using an Agrobacterium is preferred because the stable transformation can be surely done. In a preferred embodiment, the infection with the Agrobacterium is performed by the leaf disk process. |
