PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a monomeric protein effective for preventing or treating chondropathy/osteopathy. SOLUTION: This monomeric protein has such an amine acid sequence that cysteine involved in the dimer formation for a protein belonging to TGF-β- superfamily is substituted with another amino acid, and has double differentiation-inducing activity on osteoblastic cell line compared to the corresponding dimeric protein. The amino acid to be substituted is e.g. serine, threonine, alanine, valine, being esp. pref. alanine. This monomeric protein is produced by using Escherichia coli, yeast, insect cells or mammalian cells transformed with a plasmid containing a DNA sequence capable of expressing this monomeric protein. |
