1300919 Belt fasteners STEELACE Ltd 9 Aug 1971 [31 Oct 1970] 51876/70 Heading F2Q In a conveyer belt fastener comprising bridge plates 13, 14 connected by bolts 12 and nuts 17, the nuts 17 are formed as composite nuts 18, 19 waisted to a thin collar 21 such that during normal tightening the composite nut acts as a single unit enabling the nut to be fully tightened to the desired torque, after which further i.e. additional torque applied to the upper nut portion 19 fractures the collar 21 to rotate the upper nut portion 19 relative the lower nut portion 18 to cleanly break the bolt 12 in the vicinity of the collar 21 thereby providing a smooth flush bolt and nut fastener assembly. Fig. 3 illustrates an alternative composite nut in which separate nuts 24, 25 are held together by a V-section spring clip 28, the top nut 24 again being rotatable relative the bottom nut 25 on completion of assembly to break the bolt as before. Alternatively, two individual nuts (not shown) may be adjacently united to form the composite nut solely by being mounted on the bolt. The bolt 12 may be weakened in the vicinity of the collar 21 by the provision of a deepened thread 22, or notches (not shown) to reduce the effort necessary to break the bolt. |
