[2-Alkyl-5-halogeno-6-(4-trifluoromethylphenyl)-4-pyrimidinylamino]acetamide derivatives represented by formula (I); a process for producing the derivatives; a medicinal composition containing any of the derivatives as the active ingredient; and intermediates for the derivatives, wherein A means C1-6 alkyl or C3-8 cycloalkyl; R<1> and R<2> are the same or different and each means hydrogen, C1-6 alkyl, or C3-8 cycloalkyl; and X means halogeno. The compounds (I) have an excellent antirheumatic activity and are lowly toxic. They are hence useful as remedial and prophylactic agents for rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, Behcet's disease, and ankylosing spondylitis and immune inflammatory diseases such as multiple sclerosis, systemic erythematodes, and autoimmune inflammatory diseases, e.g., Sjögren's syndrome.
