PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-polariton coupling device which has an optical fiber and a polariton element coupled together efficiently and the optical communication system in which the light-polariton coupling device is incorporated. SOLUTION: This invented light-polariton coupling device is constituted by tapering the tip of an optical fiber 1 and coupling the tip and the waveguide 3 of the polariton element closely at a distance of 0.5 μm as a spread range of the proximity field of polariton. Here, the constitution wherein waveguides 3 of polariton elements 2 are provided closely and optical fibers 1 are provided having their tip tapered parts corresponding to the waveguides 3 of the polariton elements 3, the constitution wherein tapered optical fibers 1 are fixed by a fixing jig, the constitution wherein tapered tips of optical fibers 1 are made spherical, the constitution wherein the diameters of the cores of the tips of tapered optical fibers 1 are set to <=0.5 μm etc., may be adopted. |
