A spindle retainer for yarn packages, having such an excellent damping function as to be capable of rotating a large-sized yarn package at a higher speed and carrying out spindle and bearing removing and replacing operations readily in a short period of time. The retainer comprises a spindle holder (2) retaining upper and lower bearings (19, 20) via upper and lower damping rings (33, 36) of a rubber material, a bearing support (29) provided with two round-bottomed annular grooves (31, 31) in an outer circumferential surface thereof and fitted in an outer race of the upper bearing (19), cross-sectionally circular damping rings (33) of a rubber material fitted in the annular grooves (31, 31), and a lower damping ring (36) of an arbitrary cross-sectional shape restricting the lower bearing (20) in the radial direction alone thereof and retaining an outer race of the lower bearing (20), the damping rings (33) having a damping function superior to that of a cross-sectionally square damping ring and capable of absorbing in the best condition at all times external forces, such as a radial force and a thrust force even when such forces act on the spindle retainer at any ratio. |
