The rescue tube comprises a telescopically extending tube fitted on a turntable ladder or crane normally used for fire fighting. The tube system includes a cable (2) which as the ladder extends is unrolled braked through a drum to form an abseil device in the tensioned state. An extending chute can be fitted at the lower end of the tube system to allow rescued people to reach the ground.
