A hand tool for removing the stopper, foil and wire basket from a bottle of champagne consists of a first and a second half. Each half provides a handle means (21A, 21B), an angled portion (40A, 40B) at which point the halves overlap and are pivotally secured together, and one of a pair of curved gripping heads (50A, 50B) designed to engage with the stopper. Each of the gripping heads has an infacing curved surface (52) to accommodate the stopper therebetween and a pair of elongated pointed teeth (53) extending inwardly therefrom. A concave groove (54) is positioned between each set of teeth so as to allow the teeth to penetrate and firmly grip the stopper. A guard (60A, 60B) formed at the top of each of the gripping heads is spaced apart from the teeth and retains the top of the stopper during removal. One of the gripping heads terminates with a hook (51) that mates with and is partially overlapped by a matingly angled groove (56) in the point of the opposing gripping heads to form an enclosed ring around the wire loop therein when the gripping heads are closed together.
|
