A chute segment for building up a chute which may be comprised in a discharge or unloading station in a conveyor and/or sorting system. Articles may be conveyed under action of gravity along a conveying path defined by surface parts of the chute segments. The chute is built up of a plurality of chute segments. The chute segment is at least partly hollow and is made as a shell part having an outer shell which is made from a plastics or composite material and which defines one or more inner cavities. The inner cavities may be filled by a filling material, e.g., in the form of a foam or by a honeycomb structure in order to improve the stiffness and the stability of the chute segment. The chute may have a spiral- or helix-like configuration. A method for manufacturing the chute segment comprises rotational moulding of at least the shell part. A method for joining chute segments is disclosed.
