Intended is to provide a method for producing an optical recording medium wherein a desired medium can be produced in a high yield and a dye solution can be used efficiently with a reduced loss, and further the quality of a product can be kept constant even when coating operation is continuously conducted, and an optical recording medium produced using the method. A method for producing an optical recording medium comprising coating a dye solution on a substrate to form a dye film, wherein the solvent of the dye solution is a mixture of tetrafluoropropanol and/or octafluoropentanol with an aliphatic alcohol having one to four carbon atoms and a recording layer is formed by coating the dye solution, is provided.
