Electromagnetic actuator for operating gas exchange valve in IC engine

An electromagnetic actuator for operating a gas exchange valve in an IC engine has a closing magnet (2) and an opening magnet (3) between which an axially sliding armature (4) is located. The armature is connected to a valve shaft (6) of the gas exchange valve (5). There are two valve springs (7,8) acting upon the gas exchange valve in opposite senses in the opening and closing directions, by which the armature is held in an equilibrium position between the magnets when they are in a current-free state. There is a device to adjust the equilibrium position of the armature into a midway position between the magnets. The device influencing the midway position and/or the valve play comprises an adjusting mechanism (9) with an axially adjustable component (11,12) which is acted upon by a thermo-mechanical final control element (10).
