A range finder for measuring the distance to an object by projecting light beams having radiation patterns the light intensities of which are three-dimensionally different in a time-division manner toward the object from a light source, receiving reflected light from the object to obtain an image of the object, and using the light intensity of the image of the object, wherein the relationships between the angles of projected light beams from the light source at the surfaces including the center of the light source and the center of the lens and the ratios between the light intensities are determined, the light intensities of the pixels of the camera are measured when the distance is actually measured, the angle corresponding to the measured light intensity of a predetermined pixel is determined based on the measured light intensities and on the relationships between the angles and the ratios between the light intensities at a predetermined surface corresponding to the coordinates of the measured pixel, and the distance to the object is calculated based on the measured light intensities, determined angles, and information on two-dimensional coordinates of the position of a predetermined pixel on the image. |
