An assembly transports plate-like work-pieces (W) as they hang from an overhead unit from which they are subsequently released onto a conveyer belt (1,2) and a holder (3) past which the belt runs. The field operating on the holder (3) is exerted through the belt (1,2) by a magnetic field, and/or is the product of suction inlets (4) in the belt (1,2). The holder (3) has a magnet (3a) acting on a magnetic product (1), which is separated from a suction unit (3b) and load (2). The position of the magnet (3a) and suction unit (3b) with their respective loads can each be repositioned with respect to a common point (5), where they are brought into contact with the workpiece (W).
