A method for carrying out work on an object which is present under water, in particular a shipwreck, wherein persons make their way to said object under water and carry out said work in artificial light. A cover (1) is provided over the object, which cover (1) in the main abuts the bottom (2) on which or in which the object is present in surrounding relationship with respect to said object. The cover (1) encloses a space (5) in which persons can work and it comprises an entrance (12) for admitting persons to said space (5).
