The web (1, 2) is fan-folded and then rolled into a compact spiral. Each end of the electrically-conducting layer is to electrodes (5a, 5b) linked to either alternating or direct current. An adsorbent body removes impurities from e.g. air or water. The adsorbent body is manufactured from a web of electrically-conductive active carbon material (1) with an insulating layer (2).
