The tractive device is wound on at the entry side, driven against the normal run of the paper band. It carries with it a flat section extending over the width of the band. On the entry side, the band is then fastened to the flat section. The cord is driven to wind it up at the exit, also taking flat section and band. The band is separated from the flat section after passing through roller gaps. The tractive device, e.g. a conveying cord (9), is wound on at the entry side, driven against the normal run of the paper band (4). It carries with it a flat section (10) extending over the full width of the band. On the entry side, the band is then fastened to the flat section. The cord is driven to wind it up at the exit, in the normal running direction of the paper band (14), taking the flat section and band with it. After the band has passed through the roller gaps (3), it is separated from the flat section. An Independent claim is included for corresponding equipment lacing the paper. Preferred features: The flat section is carried on one side by the cord and wound up with it at the entry end, starting with the tip adjacent to the cord. In the equipment, the flat section comprises a cloth or special blanket (10). The tractive device comprises cord(s) or a band. The flat section is carried by cords on both sides.
