New breathing gas mixtures containing oxygen and 5-40 vol. % perfluorocarbons are disclosed, as is a piece of equipment used to administer the gas mixtures. A breathing gas mixture contains oxygen and 5-40 vol. % perfluorocarbon, based on the amount of oxygen and perfluorocarbon. An Independent claim is also included for a piece of equipment used to administer the gas mixture.
