The system's thermostatic operating element(24) has an electric heater, and a device is provided to control the energising of the heater. The thermostatic element has piston(26) which extends from a housing(25) when the heater is energised. The expandable material of the thermostatic element is designed so that its working temperature lies above the normal operating temperature of the coolant. The components for reducing the amount of coolant feed are kept in the normal position by spring(27) force, and shifted from this position against spring force when the heater is energised.
