Communication between DECT mobile terminal and GSM MSC

A communication system comprises a GSM mobile switching centre (MSC), a DECT fixed part in communication with the MSC and a DECT portable part in communication with the DECT fixed part. For the provision of data service communications to the DECT portable part, a protocol is applied all the way between the MSC and the portable part. Thus protocol mapping between DECT and GSM is not required in the DECT fixed part. The protocol used end-to end may be the DECT specific LAP protocol or the GSM A-interface LAP protocol.
