Process for preparing asymmetric carbon membranes

Process for the preparation of asymmetric carbon membranes formed by an asymmetric film which is practically free of defects, for the separation of gases, characterised by the following stages: formation of a film composed of a polymeric solution deposited on a macroporous carbon substrate; coagulation of the polymeric film with formation of an asymmetric structure by immersion thereof in a liquid bath consisting of a coagulating agent; vacuum heat-treatment of the coagulated polymeric film at temperatures such that it carbonises and is converted into an asymmetric carbon film deposited on and adhered to the macroporous carbon substrate.
