The connection method uses an interface circuit (1) which selectively couples different condition detection elements (Z11,Z21,Z21,Z22) for the passive safety system to a control device, e.g. a control microprocessor, via a single wire connection (2a,2b). A voltage source or a voltage-stabilised current source is brought into operation via the control device in dependence on the physical operating principle of the connected detection element.
