PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a practical positive electrode material and its manufacturing method, enabling the battery electrode life to be extended by improving the problem of dissolution of an NiO positive electrode for a molten carbonate fuel cell in an electrolyte. SOLUTION: NiO having surfaces coated with LiCoO2 is used as a positive electrode of a molten carbonate fuel cell. In this manufacturing method, a lithiic salt and a cobalt salt are dissolved in water at the stoichiometric ratio, a sol is produced by adding a chelating agent to the water solution produced, the NiO electrode is immersed in this sol, and then the electrode is dried and baked. The life of this positive electrode coated with LiCoO2 , as an electrode for an MCFC, can be remarkably extended in comparison with a usual NiO electrode not coated with LiCoO2 and, as a result, an effect is obtained that an MCFC capable of continuous 40,000 hour operation, that is the ultimate object of MCFC development. |
