PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent occurrence of a corrosion and a functional fault by forming a water repellent solid film on the surface of a magnetic head having a plurality of metal magnetic thin films. SOLUTION: A pair of magnetic core halves 11, 12 individually formed at right and left sides at a magnetic gap (g) disposed substantially at the center of a sliding surface 10a of a magnetic tape as a boundary are connected integrally by butting magnetic gap forming surfaces of butting surfaces, and a water repellent solid film 1 is further formed on its surface. The film 1 is formed by coating it with a solution in which water repellant solid component remains and drying it. For example, the overall surface of a magnetic head chip is coated with a solution obtained by dissolving a solid fluororesin and diluting it with a fluorine solvent. This is dried to volatilize the solvent, so that solid fluororesin remains, and a solid film 1 having a thickness of about 1μm is formed on the overall surface of the chip, thereby completing the magnetic head 10.
