PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect as a continuous line an edge which is detected as discrete points after pixel differentiation by regarding pixels within a specific range having in the center a pixel constituting the edge as a pixel which constitute the edge. SOLUTION: Differential modeling and matrix operation are performed for 3×3 circumferential pixels of a source image. For screen data after a differentiating process, a threshold value (inputted from outside) is provided and a binarizing process is performed. A longitudinal and lateral search is made on a screen by every obtained 3×3 screen pixels and when a center pixel is an edge, 8 circumferential pixels are regarded as the edge and outputted as an image of a source screen. Pixels (o) recognized as the edge only through the screen differentiation are discontinuous in a color X=2, but when a pixel (x) which is recognized newly as the edge is added, a continuous edge is obtained. The edges detected only through the screen differentiation are a set of points and possibly independent, but the edge can, therefore, be handled as a line. |
