Bevelling device for machining a bevel on at least one edge of a veneer 1, the said device having at least one machine tool 7 with a bit 26, which for machining a bevel is applied in an inclined position to the veneer, the said device comprising conveying equipment for conveying the machine tool 7 along a rail or the like, which conveys the machine tool along the edge of the veneer 1, and in which device there are support bars 20, 21 arranged on both sides of the veneer, of which the second bar can be guided in an upright direction so that during bevelling the veneer 1 can be pressed immovably between them, and of which the support bar 21 on the opposite side of the bit extends to the area of the bit in order to support the veneer 1 during bevelling. Holding surfaces 25 on at least one bar 21 are curved or provided with a fold angle, so that during the bevelling the veneer is bent into an arc or to a slight angle, thereby allowing the veneer to be pressed more effectively, especially against the support surface on the opposite side of the bit. <IMAGE>
