PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone system which inhibits the ringing of a ring tone by a key operation while the ring tone that accompanies a terminating call from a call originating side device rings. SOLUTION: When a ringing inhibition key is pressed down (S6: Yes) while a ring tone that accompanies a terminating call of a call originating side device, the ringing of the ring tone that accompanies the call is inhibited (S7). Therefore, a receiver can immediately inhibit the ringing of the ring tone by pressing down a ringing inhibition key in accordance with his state of mind and situation in the case of a terminating call.
