In an air-cooled, evaporative heat-exchanger, in particular a refrigerant fluid condenser, in which a fluid to be cooled passes through tubes in a vertical chimney in which a rising current of air evaporates droplets of water on the outer surfaces of the tubes. A battery of heating tubes is set in the top of the chimney to warm the air current leaving the chimney and so prevent the emission of saturated vapour which might produce an objectionable cloud of condensate on entering the atmosphere. The battery of heating tubes can be heated by precooling the fluid before it passes to the main condenser bank.
|
