The present invention related to imidazo[4,5-c]quinoline amine compounds of the formula II where: . Z is selected from the group consisting of .-(CH2)n where n is 1-4 .-(CH2)a-C(R1R2)(CH2)b- where a and b are integers and a+ b is 0-3, .R1 is hydrogen or alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms .R2 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl 1-4 carbon atoms, hydroxy, -OR3 where R3 is alkyl from 1-4 carbon atoms and-NR4R4' where R4 and R4' are independently hydrogen or alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms and .-(CH2)a-(Y)-(CH2)b- where a and b are and a+ b is 0-3 .Y is O, S or -NR5- where R5 is hydrogen or alkyl is 1-4 carbon atoms; .q is 0 or 1 .R is selected from groups consisting of alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms, alkoxy of 1-4 carbon atoms and halogen, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
