Novel laser dyes based on cpds. of general formula (1) - where x: SCN-, PO3H-, CH2OH-, COOH- gps. and n = 0 or an integer - are prepared for marking bio-molecules, especially oligo-nucleotides and DNA sequences, to aid their detection and identification. Dye marked components are irradiated with light that has at least one wavelength in the infrared or near infrared region, causing them to fluoresce. The observed wave range of the light emitted from the fluorescing components includes at least one wavelength in the infrared or near infrared region. |
