This invention describes a cholecystokinin-releasing polypeptide (approx. 8 kDa) isolated from rat intestinal secretions which binds specifically with labeled antibodies. Also claimed is a recombinant vector comprising a DNA segment, which encodes the specific cholecystokinin-releasing polypeptide, and the use of said polypeptide in the manufacture of a medicament for suppressing appetite, stimulating gallbladder contraction or treating gallbladder disease related to gallstone formation.
